Gym Lift vs. Competition Lift vs. In Gear Lift

A Gym Lift is moving the weight any way you can by yourself.

In Competition lifters can choose to compete Raw or In Gear.

Raw lifters  wear a singlet with a T-shirt underneath, socks, shoes a belt and wrist wraps.

In Gear adds a specially made lifting shirt/suit that is so tight it enables lifters to move a LOT more weight.

All USAPL (United States Association of Power Listers) records are on the web site www.goheavy.net. They are listed by age, weight and category. This is the governing body Doc has been competing under here in Washington State.

For a Competition Bench Press lift there are three judges. The lifter takes the weight off the rack and holds in the top position. Once the judge says "start", the lifter brings the weight to his chest and pauses until the judges says "go". The bar cannot vary more than one inch from parrallel. The bar must keep moving. Feet must be flat with no movement and the lifters butt cannot raise off the bench. The judges then hold up a white card (for Good) or a red card (for No Lift).

In Las Vegas Doc will be competing in the WBDLA (World Bench and Dead Lift Association). To set a world record Doc must compete IN GEAR.

Below is Doc benching 352 pounds, Raw Lift for his American Record at 198 pounds.
